πŸ’–πŸ  Unique Home Jalandhar: A Sanctuary of Hope and Love πŸ’–πŸ

picture of young girl looking up from a book

Whilst the majority of our fundraising supports local good causes, every two years we hold a golf day specifically to raise funds for international charities and causes. 🌍

One of the good causes benefiting from your support is Unique Home Jalandhar an orphanage located in the Punjab which is dedicated to rescuing and nurturing abandoned and orphaned girls, giving them a safe haven and a chance at a brighter future. πŸŒŸπŸ‘§

At Unique Home, every child is treated with love, dignity, and care, regardless of caste, creed, or religion. The home provides not only shelter but also education, life skills, and emotional support, empowering these girls to grow into confident and self-reliant individuals. πŸ“šπŸ’ͺ

Unique Home also carries out outreach work to help strengthen families and reduce the risk of girls being abandoned. πŸ§‘β€πŸ§‘β€πŸ§’β€πŸ§’πŸ’ͺ

In a society where female foeticide and abandonment are harsh realities, Unique Home is a powerful reminder of the value and potential of every girl. The girls here are not just given a homeβ€”they are given a family, a future, and a reason to dream. 🌈✨

Together, we can help these girls thrive and show the world the power of kindness and community. πŸ€πŸ’ž

Supporting the Birch Thompson Memorial Fund

picture of smiling girl climbing

Thanks to the help of the collectors from the Inner Wheel Club of Tettenhall and your generous donations to our Christmas Santa Sleigh appeal, we’ve made a joint donation to the Birch Thompson Memorial Fund, one of Inner Wheel’s chosen charities.

The donation will help the Fund to maintain and develop Gelliwig, a residential centre in Porthmadog, North Wales, which offers low-cost residential accommodation for young people from Wolverhampton and the wider West Midlands. 🏞️🏑

Since its formation in 1981, the Fund has helped thousands of young people develop their skills and talents and experience the outdoors. Gelliwig is a popular destination for school groups, youth groups, and other organisations from Wolverhampton, looking for a base for activities such as hiking, canoeing, and rock climbing. πŸ§—πŸš£β€β™‚οΈ

If you would like to find out more about the Birch Thompson Memorial Fund and its work at Gelliwig, visit their website at www.gelliwig.org.uk. 🌐

We are happy to support an organisation that is helping to create a brighter future for the young people of Wolverhampton. 🌟✨

Supporting Hearing Dogs for the Deaf

Have you ever wondered how life-changing a loyal furry friend can be for someone who is deaf? 🐾 The Hearing Dogs for the Deaf charity is dedicated to training and providing specially trained dogs to assist people who are deaf. These incredible dogs not only alert their owners to important sounds like doorbells, alarms, and even baby cries, but they also bring love, confidence, and independence into their lives.

Each dog is carefully trained to cater to the unique needs of their future owner, offering a life-transforming bond that goes beyond mere companionship. ❀️ From Labrador Retrievers to Cocker Spaniels, these dogs become the ears for those who cannot hear, making everyday life a bit easier and much more joyful.

After hearing about the wonderful work of this charity from two of its local ambassadors we’ve made a donation to help support the work of Hearing Dogs for the Deaf. Together, we can help change lives one dog at a time! πŸ•βœ¨

Supporting the Memory Cafe

We’re really grateful for the support we received from members of the Tettenhall Inner Wheel Club at this years Santa Sleigh collections – to recognise their invaluable help we’ve made a joint donation to one of their nominated charities, the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre Memory CafΓ©.

These cafΓ©s provide an opportunity for people living with dementia to enjoy the magic of live music, free refreshments and a safe space to socialise with people in a similar situation.

Music has been proven to have transformative affects on people living with dementia, helping to improve cognitive function, boost mood and behaviour and improve thinking and feeling. The entertainment features a variety of genres such as Motown, Gospel, Bollywood, Bhangra, Music Hall and 40s-60s music with professional performers.

Our donation and those of the Theatre’s other supporters mean that the cafΓ©s are free to attend.

If you know someone who’d like to attend you can book free tickets through the Theatre’s Outreach team by emailing access@grandtheatre.co.uk or calling 01902 57 33 20.

Supporting Adult Literacy

One of Rotary’s core goals is to strengthen our communities by supporting basic education and literacy.

Reading is a basic requirement of everyday life, and whilst for many of us its a skill we take for granted there areβ€―2.4 million adults in England alone who can barely read or cannot read at all.

This means that they find everyday tasks like filling in forms, helping children with schoolwork and reading letters and bills difficult. Being unable to read also impacts on their employment opportunities, self-confidence and their ability to participate in society.

Learning to read as an adult is life-changing both for the adult and for their families and that’s why we’re supporting Read Easy UK to provide their volunteer-led reading coaching programme for adults in Wolverhampton.β€―Read Easy helps any adult who either can’t read or who lacks confidence with reading. The reading coaching they provide is confidential, one-to-one and absolutely free!

If you or someone that you know could benefit from their help you can find the contact details for the local Read Easy Coordinator here https://readeasy.org.uk/groups/wolverhampton/

Helping Compton Care

There aren’t many people in Wolverhampton who haven’t been touched by the wonderful work of Compton Care.

For over 40 years they have been providing specialist palliative and end of life care to patients, and support for their families, helping them to navigate every aspect of life with a life limiting condition.

Rotary has been involved with the work of Compton Care since its earliest days and helped to fund the initial fit out of the Hall for use as a care facility for patients with terminal illnesses.

Government funding alone won’t cover the ongoing cost of providing its services to patients free of charge and as a result the organisation continues to rely on donations from the community.

Thanks to your support of our Christmas collections we’ve been able to make a donation to help Compton Care with these costs so that it can continue to offer an outstanding level of service to both patients and visitors.
